Wide Range in a regular Humbucker cover


Now you can have your cake and play it too.  Our WR Baby is very similar to our full sized Wide Range model but it's been squeezed into a normal humbucker cover without compromising the sound.  And it does not require any modification to your humbucker equipped guitar.

You will notice the pole screws are bigger than usual, these are our special threaded Alnico rod magnets, we don't use threaded FeCrCo rod magnets because we want to avoid the jagged highs of similar pickups of other brands.  Our magnets produce a very agreeable sound that has smooth trebles from the plain strings but still has bite and edge so they cut through. 

We make our WR Mini in four different flavors.

WR Baby Humbucker – Zero-Hum 

  • Heavy:  Clear and well defined dirty growl for the bridge position.  We know that sounds somewhat contradictory but when you hear one of the Heavy’s you’ll know exactly what we mean, no sloppy mess.  This little monster is great for Heavy Rock, Metal, Blues and anything that uses growl or hi gain.
  • Lite:  A really fun little monster.  Delightfully bouncy, sweet chunky highs and even more dynamic and louder than some of our full sized humbuckers.  Extremely well behaved in the neck position, absolutely no slop or messy bass side sounds ... and definitely no mud either.  Makes you wanna play and keep on playing.  Good for neck and also for bridge positions.  Wonderful clean and dirty modes.
  • Split single coil (non-noiseless and optional Zero-Hum).  Not quite a Fender sound but bright, spanky and loud.

WR Baby P90-Bucker – Zero-Hum

  • Heavy:  Clear and well defined dirty growl for the bridge position.  We know that seems somewhat contradictory but when you hear one of the Heavy’s you’ll know exactly what we mean, no sloppy mess.  Rock, Reggae, Pop, Jazz, Country, Indie and any musical style that calls for a monster in baby's clothing.
  • Lite:  Bright, sweet and beautiful tone and it’s very dynamic with a very bouncy low wound string sound.  Well behaved in the neck position and absolutely no slop or messy bass side sounds.  

WR Baby Twang-Bucker – Zero-Hum

  • Heavy:  Clear and sharp twang for the bridge position.  Very dynamic.  Country, Surf, Instrumental, Virtuoso.
  • Lite:  Bright, sweet with sharp twang.  Well behaved in the neck position.  Country, Surf, Instrumental, Virtuoso.

WR Baby Tubular Belle - Zero-Hum

  • Thick:  Mainly for the bridge position it produces a beautiful tone with unique and dramatic midrange scoop.
  • Normal:  Mainly for the neck position designed to be extremely well behaved, avoiding any sloppy mess (untidy) when the low wounds strings are played hard as a chord which is what ordinary humbuckers do.

 

Technical & Application info:

Our pickups are over engineered and designed carefully so that wax potting has no detrimental effect on sound.  All Kinman's are wax potted and you have the freedom to utterly saturated their sound in distortion without a hint of microphonic feedback.
 
Our covers are made of Nickel-Silver so there is no degradation of tonal nuances.
 
Pole spreads
  • 53mm bridge pickups with vintage Stratocaster bridge
  • 50mm bridge pickup for all other bridges -and- neck pickup with vintage Stratocaster bridge
  • 47.5mm neck pickup with all other bridges

Mounting hardware (included)

  • Two and three 3-48 UNC mounting screws.  Phillips head. 
  • Two and three Silicon rubber tube springs

Options

  • 3 screw mount for controlled tilt - 8mm, Fender's 12mm or other separation by request in your order

Hook-up wires

  • Robust single wires for soldering, requires effective shielding in wiring tunnels to prevent electrical buzz
    • More than 3 single wires for multi-sound versions
  • 2 or 3 conductor shielded cable to facilitate phase reversing of non-splitting versions.  Wiring tunnel shielding not required
  • All the above with or without Kinman Harness Plug

Connection means

Cover options

  • Polished Nickel-Silver.  Best sonic performance and immunity to feedback screech.  Suitable for relicing and deliberate aging
  • Will lose it's mirror-like polish naturally in a few months unless you maintain it with occasional application of clear liquid guitar polish such as Martin guitar polish which does not build up over time to a waxy coating that is impossible to remove.
  • Gold plated with real Gold which has magnetic Nickel plating under the gold so expect a slight loss of performance and susceptibility to feedback screech under extremely high gain but still way way better than another brand from Stated Island.
  • With and without Kinman logo

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with 500k Ohm volume pot. 
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 262k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 450k.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller uF value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.
  • The voltage rating of Caps is not important but 63 ~ 100 volt have thicker lead wires that are easy to work with.

Output Polarity: 

  • in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
  • in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
  • opposite phase to Fender Strat

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in the Technical section even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available with extra functionality switching options.
